Hello Dr. Vogtli,
Greetings from Universal Chastity Education (UCE), a Ugandan non governmental organization that empowers young to abstain from sex until marriage and to be faithful thereafter. Am indeed glad to hear about your activities and navigating through your website has served to deepen my understanding and interest in your vision. It gives hope that there are groups like Projec Truth that are promoting biblical values of abstinence and faithfulness in a society that the media has portrayed to be morally confused. You are the light of hope and please be encouraged. God bless you all and may His Peace be with you,

Knowing teens who have attended abstinence presentations by ProjecTruth, I've witnessed a definite change in their demeanor.

These teens now "carry" themselves with an air of purpose, self worth, and respect toward others. They are willing to converse with others on the issue of sex. They relate the facts on contraception, as was presented to them by ProjecTruth educators, and the truth of ongoing consequences of early sexual activity.

The fact is not all young people make rash decisions, seek personal sexual fulfillment and have multiple partners. Many do strive to avoid the behaviors that may put them at risk as they practice self-discipline and reach their purpose in life.

It's time to accept that many youth are well informed especially during this computer age where information is readily available with the click of a mouse.

You imply that premarital sex is antithetical to good character. I submit that life is more complicated than black and white dichotomies. Further, I most respect educators willing to provide young people with all of the available information concerning the risks of sexual activity, not just those data that conform to ProjecTruth's narrow definition of "the right choice."

Contrary to your claims, ProjecTruth embraces ultra-conservative religious doctrine. Your "medical advisor," Dr. John Diggs, Jr., advised the Family Research Council, a Christian organization that laments the provision of information about sex and sexuality to young people. In his writings, Diggs opposes the social acceptance of "same-sex behavior" and equates homosexuality to polygamy and pedophilia [1]. He also signed an open letter exhorting black homosexuals to "submit to God" to become straight [2].

Isn't ProjecTruth concerned with the truth? Your own blog claims that "abstinence is the only 100 percent effective way to avoid pregnancy and disease," which implies that sex within marriage is perfectly safe [3]. Further, you fail to disclose that Diggs's views on sex education and sexuality are opposed by both the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association [4-6].

All sex education programs should emphasize the benefits of remaining chaste during ones teenage years. Unfortunately, ProjecTruth's blind allegiance to abstinence-only "education" only serves to deny vital health information to any youth who chooses to depart from Christian dogma concerning sex.
