CDC releases research showing decrease in teen sexual activity
Friday, June 18th, 2010CDC releases research showing decrease in teen sexual activity
“NAEA is encouraged by a recent CDC release stating that teen sexual activity has remained level since 2002, despite the heightened sexualization of the culture. We are, however, very concerned that there is decreased distress among teens over the possibility of becoming pregnancy unmarried. This information demonstrates that we need to get serious about educating teens on the overwhelming benefits for children born within a stable married relationship. It also shows us that the problem isn’t that teens don’t know how to acquire or use a condom. Most used one the first time they had sex. There is obviously a more core issue at work here. More contraceptive education is not going to solve this problem. It appears that teens are in greater need of the type of relationship education that is a part of many Abstinence Education programs because it puts the conversation of ‘sex’ within a broader context of future goals, relationships, and the advantages of waiting until marriage to have sex and children.“?
